Late yesterday the NCAA announced the qualifier allocations for the D1 Wrestling Championships. #s of qualifiers per weight is based on Conference strength and individuals are ranked by the following criteria: Winning percentage at the weight class, Rating Percentage Index (RPI), and Coaches Ranking.

Here is the article released by the NCAA:

The B10 Conference gets between 5 - 12 automatic qualifiers per weight and after these qualifiers are set, there are an additional 70 at-large qualifiers that will be announced on March 11th. Many of our wrestlers are ranked so their RPI is high, as expected. In the two weights where we have been weakest this year - 125# Ethan Lizak has an RPI of 24 and 149# Jake Short has a 22. The B10 only gets 5 automatic qualifier spots at 125 and 7 at 149...so unless they place high at the B10 Tournament, and show strength finishing out the year - they won't qualify automatically - but could get picked for an at-large spot.

Others like #165 Nick Wanzek who has an RPI of 18, Brett Pfarr at 15 and Michael Kroells at 13 will either qualify automatically or will be at-large picks.

I know the team is in diligent preparation for the B10 Tournament now - which is Sat March 7th and Sun March 8th in Columbus, OH. It's a good time to have a BTN + subscription as the first 4 rounds are only streamed online and the finals are live on BTN on Sunday at 2pm CT.

Go Gopher Wrestling!!!
