University of Wisconsin won the national championship in a 5 set victory over Nebraska. A great match... Dana Rettke played well when the Badgers needed it the most.. I know I should hate everything Wisconsin but she is a nice girl besides a top volleyball player and personally, I feel I can be a top Gopher fan and still appreciate the talents of our archenemy. Wisconsin has enough talent coming back to be competitive with anyone, in the upcoming years.

Minnesota beat the national runner-up Nebraska team, during the regular season.. Our last win was against a top 5 team in Baylor.. Our last match was a loss to the eventual national champion. We have great outside hitters coming back and coming in. Our setter is back. We will have those outside hitters and setter back together for 2 more years.. We have some good defensive specialists/liberos coming back and coming in as recruits.

I do think we need to include our middle blockers in our offense a bit more to diversify. I saw that in both Wisconsin and Nebraska. I think it is a necessary weapon to be a national title contender. Maybe a bit more consistent play but we are right there, as a program. Nebraska has the number 1 recruit in the nation, coming in and we have the number 2 recruit. We will have to figure out how to replace Samedy but I think we will be more diversified next year and a threat again.. The Big Ten has proven to be the best conference in volleyball and Purdue, Ohio State, and Illinois will be up there again with Wisconsin and Nebraska as top teams. Penn State as well. But our season proved to me that we are among the best and Gopher volleyball is something that should make all Minnesota fans proud.
