The section final game between Orono and DeLaSalle a couple weeks ago was an instant classic. Gabe Kalscheur hit three huge three's in the last 90 seconds of the game to bring DeLaSalle back. They were down by 7 with two minutes left and came back to win in regulation. Gabe was incredibly clutch down the stretch and two of the threes he hit were highly contested. Minnesota needs guys who want to step up and hit big shots late in games. He had 35 points on the night.
Jarvis Omersa had a very solid game. He showed the ability to protect the rim and is a very solid shot blocker for his size. He scores off of a spin move in the post, putbacks, a couple dunks and a spot-up three from the top of the key off the catch and shoot. He hit two big free throws in a row in the final minute as Orono tried to hold off the Islanders. It truly was a miracle comeback for D to get back to the state tournament.
Daniel Oturu and Cretin's game vs. Apple Valley on Saturday for the state championship was a thriller as well, but many of you know that already. This is a 10 minute plus highlight video of many of the big plays from the game. Tre Jones was obviously terrific, hitting six threes and big shot after big shot down the stretch as he tried to will Apple Valley to a win. He had 37 points. Oturu shows here his ability to protect the rim, rebound, and finish strong inside. I did notice several times on this clip even that he relies on his size and athleticism to rebound and misses box out hits. This has been an issue for Minnesota in the past, especially last year. This needs to be fixed as he gets to college.
Side note: The play where he shoves Tre Jones down and stands over him for the technical foul can be found at the 4:50 mark, for those that were wondering what happened in that circumstance.
