Good grief... 489 yard drive... 4-8-9......Dustin Johnson lost his match in the WGC match play event but he hit a 489 yard drive yesterday.. Just 11 yards short of 500 yards.. I dont care if he is hitting with the wind to his back, hitting down hill, hitting in high elevations with thin air, whatever... I have played par 5's shorter than 489 yards. That is a game I dont even understand.
I am not a very good amateur golfer but I have hit a drive 350 yards one time in my life, and I thought I could never see that done again...A really good drive for me is 265-280 yards. Then, I saw Mickelson hit one 375 yards at Akron Firestone and thought that could never be duplicated... Now these guys are bombing it out there 330+ yards every drive.. Even the ones considered short hitters.. Heck, they are hitting 3 woods well over 300 yards.. But 489 yards is in a different stratosphere, IMO. Wow!!
