Since STP is making me do a film review on Kiondre, I wanted to pass on some other thoughts or notes that haven't been mentioned much, if at all, from the review threads.
1. Both coordinators get a shout-out from me due to the variety of and aggressive nature of the play calling on both sides of the ball. I recognize this is in part due to added parts that provide confidence and an ability to be more aggressive with downfield shots on offense, and blitzes and press coverage on D. One of my frustrations last year was a stubbornness to the implementation of the systems which sometimes came at the expense of a potential win. I understand why, but just hard to watch. The fact that Ciarocca rolled out the Green package against NMSU (twice) tells me there isn't holding back
2. Impressive physicality on both sides of the ball. NMSU's coach mentioned this in the press conference. I felt like we got back to seeing a tough, physical team. Along those lines, how about Shenault's hit on the punt coverage?
3. O-line really settled in and was really looking good after the first quarter. A lot of push on some of Smith's runs. I thought the 2nd string line was doing pretty darn good as well. I know it wasn't the toughest D we will face by far, but nice to see them do what they were supposed to do, wear out an opponent.
4. I haven't seen it mentioned, and I know there was talk about Beebe only participating in certain packages, but man he makes a difference leading the play. I thought he had a really good game both on goal-line and kick return packages.
5. Great effort and hustle on downfield blocking. This will make a difference of a couple home runs this year for Smith. Our WR's had a great game in getting open and catching the ball, but the effort downfield to block was awesome to see and great coaching. Green's effort on Winfield's return was really good.
I will save my thoughts on Kiondre Thomas for the separate thread.
