The brackets have been released this afternoon for the B1G Wrestling Championships that run tomorrow and Sunday at MSU. Here they are:

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...7-18/misc_non_event/brackets2018wrestling.pdf

Here are our guy's matches and how they might do:

125
(5) Ethan Lizak (MINN) RS Jr (23-4) vs. (12) Johnny Jimenez (WIS) (4-12). After this match, EL gets (4) Sebastian Rivera (NU) So (22-3). Then if he wins there, he gets (1) Nick Suriano (RUT) So (20-0), and probably loses, so he goes into the wrestlebacks to get to either the 5th place match or the 3rd place match. To get 3rd, he'll have to beat the loser of the Nate Tomasello/Spencer Lee match. A tall order, at best he gets 4th.

133
(3) Mitch McKee (MINN) So (15-4) vs. Colin Valdiviez (NU) (21-13). 2nd round McKee gets (6) Corey Keener (PSU) RS Sr (14-6) and he should win that. Quarterfinals he gets (2) Luke Pletcher (OSU) So (23-1) and it's a toss-up who wins there. So, next match he either gets (1) Stevan Micic (MICH) RS So (18-2) or maybe (4) Jason Renteria (NEB) Fr (5-2). McKee takes at least 3rd place.

141

(6) Tommy Thorn (MINN) (18-9) vs. (3) Michael Carr (ILL) So (14-4). Thorn beats Carr this time, then he gets (2) Nick Lee (PSU) Fr (22-4) in the Qtrs. Thorn loses this one and maybe gets (5) Nate Limmex (PUR) RS So (23-12) next. He wins this one and maybe gets (4) Chad Red (NEB) So (18-7) in the 3rd place match. This could go either way, so he takes 3rd or 4th.

149

(9) Steve Bleise (MINN) RS Jr (15-5) vs. (8) Malik Amine (MICH) RS Jr (14-9). Bleise wins here then loses to (1) Zain Retherford (PSU) RS Sr (23-0). Then he might get (4) Colton McCrystal (NEB) RS Fr (17-3) or (6) Eleazar Deluca (RUT) RS Sr (10-9). This is hard to predict, if he wins he maybe gets (3) Ryan Deakin (NU) So (28-4), where he loses. Or he's in the 5th place match vs. maybe (7) Alfred Bannister (MD) RS Jr (19-6). He takes 5th or 6th place.

157
(7) Jake Short (MINN) RS Sr (13-9) beats Kyle Langendorfer (ILL) (10-8). Then he gets (2) Jason Nolf (PSU) RS Jr (19-1) who is coming back from a serious injury. Short might get lucky here because many people think that Nolf is not going to wrestle, taking a medical forfeit. If this happens, Short would lose to (3) Alec Pantaleo (MICH) RS Jr (14-5) in the Qtrs. Otherwise he might get 4) Micah Jordan (OSU) RS Jr (20-5) or (5) Tyler Berger (NEB) Sr (18-6). He loses to either of them and gets the other one in the 5th place match. Short takes 6th.

165
(6) Nick Wanzek (MINN) (20-7) beats(11) Bryce Martin (IND) RS Sr (12-5). Then he loses to (3) Vincenzo Joseph (PSU) Jr (17-1). Next he beats (9) Te`Shan Campbell (OSU) (15-8) and then gets either (4) Richie Lewis (RUT) RS Sr (14-3) or (5) Evan Wick (WIS) (19-5) in the 3rd place match. He takes 4th.

174
Chris Pfarr (MINN) (13-12) loses to (8) Ryan Christensen (WIS) (21-11), then he might get Logan Ritchie (MSU) (10-20). Pfarr wins there and loses to(4) Dylan Lydy (PUR) RS So (29-10). Pfarr doesn't place.

184

(8) Brandon Krone (MINN) RS Jr (8-5) beats Mitch Sliga (NU) Sr (16-12), then he loses to(1) Bo Nickal (PSU) RS Jr (23-0). Krone loses to either (6) Tyler Venz (NEB) (20-5) or (7) Ricky Robertson (WIS) (21-7). Then he's in the 7th place match, where he loses again to either Venz or Robertson. Krone gets 8th place.

197
Dylan Anderson (MINN) So (23-13) loses to (4) Kevin Beazley (MICH) RS Sr (13-7), then he beats David-Brian Whisler (MD) Jr (13-3). Next, he loses to (6) Christian Brunner (PUR) So (20-7) or (7) Zack Chakonis (NU) (14-11). Anderson doesn't place.

285
(8) Rylee Streifel (MINN) RS So (10-12) beats Christian Rebottaro (MSU) RS Fr (9-12), then he loses to (1) Adam Coon (MICH) RS Sr (23-0). Next Streifel loses to either (6) Conan Jennings (NU) RS Jr (21-8) or (7) Shawn Streck (PUR) RS Fr (26-11). If there's a 7th place match, Streifel loses taking 8th place.

If it goes close to how I've predicted, we will have 7 Automatic Qualifiers for the Natty tournament in 2 weeks, and both Anderson and Streifel will have a chance at being At-Large selections. I think Streifel might get in on this.

Of course, as often happens in Gopher Wrestling, a lot could go awry and we could end up with a couple less AQ's, but it's likely that those guys might get A-L bids.

It all starts tomorrow at 9 am CT on BTN+/FloWrestling, so either way it's going to be FUN TO WATCH!!!
