"When I got to Wisconsin I was surprised I was one of a four recruits
that were there to watch practice, which made it better because I was
able to have more one-on-one talks with staff on the sidelines," Bailey
Edwards told BadgerBlitz.com. "Every now and then we would get pulled
aside to part of the stadium for different things. First would be
the weight room and we were able to get an idea what workouts we would
do upon arrival as a freshman.
"Then coming back onto the field
it was amazing to see former players such as Nick Toon, Al Toon, Kenzel
Doe and Melvin Gordon back watching practice. After practice I talked
with the receivers coach (Ted Gilmore) and we talked about me being on the list of kids to offer but he wants to see me run routes in person."
Gilmore,
in his first year on staff, will get that opportunity this summer as
Edwards plans to camp in Madison. The next trip would be his fifth to
campus.
"I had already planned to come back for camp," Edwards
said. "The campus seems like everything is close together, especially
for football. Just about everything is right there at the stadium. This
my fourth time visiting; I was at three games during the season.
"I also talked to the defensive line coach (Inoke Breckterfield) and assistants of strength and conditioning. Both talked about how the whole staff likes my ability to stretch the defense."
At this point, Edwards has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Kent State, Minnesota, Ohio and Western Michigan, with interest coming from a handful of other schools.
"No others planned as of right now," Edwards said. "The two schools that stand out to me are Wisconsin and Minnesota. Obviously the coaches want you there at the two schools, but also the players already made you feel a part of the team."
Edwards, who would like to major in business, is looking for a few specific things in a potential university.
"The
academics have to be right for me and I'm looking for a school where I
will develop as a receiver for the better," he said. "I also have to be
comfortable at a place where I can call that school home for the time
I'm there."
