I am an analytical guy.. That is just how I am cut..Nerdy with the stats at times yet trying to reconcile that with a human emotional element that may counter what stats attempt to prove. Combine that with a love of recruiting and that leads me to think of crazy things, at times.

In the 2019 class, 57 of the top 150(38%) have committed to programs, already.. The breakdown on positions is 20 centers, 35 power forwards, 34 small forwards, 23 point guards, and 38 shooting guards.. Remember that some of the guards could be combo guards and some of the power forwards could be 'stretch 4's' that could almost play a small forward or power forwards that could be center types that move and shoot a bit better than a traditional center. The initial stats show how important flexibility is on the court, IMO... It shows what teams securing early commits want in their players

Almost 1/2 (47%) of Rivals 150 shooting guards have committed to programs already. To me, that shows the state of the game and the desire for wing types that can shoot it yet guard multiple positions.. Plus the flexibility to handle it as a lead guard if the teams want to go bigger. IT ALSO SHOWS ME THAT MINNESOTA NEEDS TO STAY ON THESE KIDS EARLY AT THAT POSITION, IF THEY WANT TO COMPETE FOR QUALITY PLAYERS. 40% of the Power Forwards have committed and it is interesting to see their potential suitors as to what type of player they want.. More a center type or otherwise, a guy that can stretch the floor at the 4. About the same percentage of PGs have committed as PFs, at this point.. Only 30% of the centers have committed and that is true for the small forwards, which is interesting to me. I thought the small forwards would get scooped up quickly.

Big guys that can shoot and long shooting guards that can guard multiple positions are what is most desired in today's game and the early commits are demonstrating that... BTW, in the Big Ten, Ohio State has a couple of high level commits as does Michigan at the wings.. Michigan is recruiting the typical long wings that can shoot it, a John Beilein trademark. I will say that I am VERY CONFIDENT that Ohio State has one of the hardest working coaching staffs, in terms of recruiting, of just about anyone in the conference and across the nation.. Maryland has a couple of bigs and Purdue has one as well... Indiana has a guard committed that is pretty good and of course McCaffery's son committed to Iowa. Other interesting notes are that Texas A&M and USC are off to great starts in recruiting.. Kentucky is as well(What's new??).. Villanova has made a big splash with a couple shooting guards and a PF that are all top 75 players. THEY JUST OFFERED MATTHEW HURT. Xavier has a couple of bigs committed already... Vanderbilt has a big coming in that is pretty good to go along with Crowley..UCLA has a couple guys as well in the top 150. Some of the TOP END GUYS will probably wait to see how many players that programs like Duke and Kentucky send to the NBA this year before they commit anywhere.. .

Mark"Rocket" Watts is transferring to the same school that Terry Lockett is going to play basketball, in Ohio. Perhaps the "ROCKET/LOCKETT" backcourt?? . La Lumiere, a prep school in Indiana, has a bunch of guys being recruited and of course Sunshine Christian has players other than Crowley and our recent commit, Tray Jackson, so that is a school we need to keep an eye on, in the future. I would love to see us make a presence at La Lumiere as they are getting some serious talent and are a midwest prep school.
