Carlie Wagner to compete in televised 3-pt contest

MINNEAPOLIS– Minnesota senior guardCarlie Wagnerhas been selected to take part in the 3-Point Championship at the 30th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships this Thursday night in San Antonio, Texas, the site of the 2018 Men’s Final Four. The event will take place at Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary’s University and will air live on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. CT.

One of eight women’s college basketball players chosen for the event, Wagner was a huge threat from 3-point range this season. She was 101-of-245 from beyond the arc this year, good for a .412 percentage. She currently ranks 19th in the country in 3-pointers made, 20th in 3-pointers made per game (3.06), 31st in 3-point shooting percentage and 36th in 3-pointers attempted.

Her 3-point total this year was the second highest in program history, while the amount of attempts ranked third. For her career, Wagner finished second in the Minnesota record book for 3-pointers made (307) and attempted (880).

In addition to being named an All-Region Nominee for the 2018 Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, Wagner was also chosen as a First Team All-Big Ten honoree and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

She finished second on the team this year with 18.7 points per game, while also averaging 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

Wagner is just the second Minnesota player to ever compete in the event. She is looking to follow in the footsteps of former GopherRachel Banham, who won the 3-point contest in 2016.
