Emmit Carpenter and Payton Jordahl each earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Thursday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Carpenter has a 3.54 GPA majoring in supply chain and operations management. Carpenter has made 14-of-18 field goals this season and leads the team with 73 points. He made 22-of-24 field goals last season and was named the Big Ten Bakken Andersen Kicker of the Year (first Gopher to win the award). He is statistically the most accurate kicker in school history, as he has made 36-of-42 tries (85.7%). Chip Lohmiller, who made 57-of-75 from 1984-87, is second at 76%.
This is the second straight season that Carpenter has been named Academic All-District. He was also honored as an Academic All-Big Ten performer last season.
Jordahl holds a 3.71 GPA in youth studies. The Perham, Minn., native has snapped 371 times in his career, which includes 203 punts, 105 point after attempts and 63 field goals. Jordahl has also made eight tackles on special teams in his career. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten nominee and was also named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar last season.
