It will take P.J. Fleck more than the year through his next full season to explain what he did during the fourth quarter of today's game with his play calling on offense. Fleck simply gave up. He provided his team very little or no chance to redeem themselves against WI in this massacre by constantly running the football and, finally, punting on fourth down with little time left in the game.
This is the second week in a row Fleck has apparently decided it was better to quit trying on offense rather than to lose by greater than the combined total of points by which they were defeated any way in the two games. Who cares if you lose by 55-0 rather than 35-0 if you don't even try? I get MN has an ineffective and injured offensive line, no wide receivers and a truly terrible quarterback. But running plays up the middle when you are down by over thirty points means you've given up. When the head coach quits, why should the players care? RTB, my ass!
Lastly, how could any offense in its right mind run a QB option against WI's 3-4 once--let alone time after time? And they ran it using one of the poorest excuses for an option QB in NCAA football history. Kill/Claeys left the cupboard bare at MN but Fleck has made a total fool out of himself and his sloganeering these last two weeks. No wonder MN has not won a championship of any kind in football for over fifty years.
