Watching BTN and reading this forum, including myself, it seems very glaring that it is way too easy to forget the defense. Minnesota absolutely shuts down Kent State, not to mention holding TCU to the low twenties, in a 10-7 victory and most (almost all) of the attention is on our offensive issues.
My guess is that has to do with the difference between positives and negatives. You score, that's a positive. You prevent a score, that's a negative. You can't prove a negative. Win 57-49 the headlines read "Gopher offense is unstoppable!". Win 10-7 and the headline is, well we know what they were.
We had the first situation under Mason, remember how that worked out? Now we've got the opposite. I, for one, have a much stronger belief that we can fix the offensive than I ever felt in prior years that we could build a lock down defense. And let's not forget, under Brewster we had neither. Right now our situation is the best it's been in decades.
