Even up here in the tundra it is happening. One Christian group is bringing in a speaker (Arab Christian) to discuss Islam and its tenets. Don't know, don't care one way or another about the speaker. Not going to attend, but believe that it could be beneficial for many to hear the perspectives. Apparently he is outspoken about Sharia law, and how it is weaving its way into US culture, etc. Given huge local increase in immigrants from Somalia, and their outspoken views, this could be interesting.
Well that forum or event is just not acceptable. the Muslim community is outraged. Tried to get the facility canceled, labeling everything as hate speech, and therefore should not be venued as planned. It did not succeed. So the local Muslims (way, way more than you would think) have rallied and will be outside the entrances to the venue. Said opponent canvassed the local Christian churches about this outrage seeking to have the churches blackball the event. They have also rallied the progressive university students to support the protest (including the campus religious organizations). Since there have been militant Islamic speakers (with clear anti-Christian agendas) in mini metro area, I find the hypocrisy entertaining.
newspaper of course has stirred the pot somewhat. really should be much ado about nothing, like the Mizzou protestor.
funny how we can all seem to coexist so reasonably well, when religion is not one of the first things out of peoples mouths.
I have been tempted to attend just to have a protestor stop me. the police have assured the protest will be peaceful. the venue it right next door, my window looks down on the facility. I know this locale quite well. those attending will likely be in close proximity to those protesting, possibly in gauntlet fashion, unless they move the protesters into the street (that wont go over very well). apparently private security has been brought in.
oh well. time to get back to work. no one better mess with the parking ramp or my vehicle. then I will care.
