As a former offensive lineman, the term "getting separation" as applied to wide receivers is confusing to me. My thought is that the defense so disregards the abilities of the opposition that D-backs press the WRs and leaves the QB few options in the pass game.
What are the nuances of "getting separation" that I don't understand? Is it lack of respect for the WRs? Is it sloppy route running? Is it DBs being more physical at the line of scrimmage? Is it lack of physicality in the establishing of running the route on the WRs?
Please help me understand.
