Baseball Candidates Announced for 2018 Senior CLASS Award (March 21, 2018)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Gopher Baseball senior infielder Micah Coffey has been named among the thirty NCAA baseball student athlete candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award for collegiate baseball.
Senior student athletes who have “notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition” are considered eligible for the award. CLASS stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, and the Award “focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.”
Coffey is among three candidates from Big Ten schools, joining Seth Kinker of Ohio State and Scott Schreiber of Nebraska.
The list of 30 candidates will narrow to 10 finalists later this season. Those finalists will be placed on the ballot for a nationwide voting system for media, coaches, and fans who will decide who best exemplifies the standards of the honor. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2018 College World Series in June.
