No. 3 Gopher Men’s Hockey
Minnesota (23-12-3 last season) held the No. 3 position in the preseason USCHO.com Division I Men’s Poll released last week. Last year’s National Champion, Denver, claimed the top spot and 48-of-50 first-place votes.
Previously: The Gophers defeated Alberta 6-2 in exhibition action thanks in large part to a four-point performance from freshman Casey Mittelstadt and a strong period each from the team’s three goaltenders.
Up Next: The Maroon & Gold heads up Interstate-35 to the Ice Breaker tournament hosted by Minnesota Duluth. After taking on the host Bulldogs on Friday night, the Gophers take on Union or Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon.
No. 4 Gopher Women’s Hockey
Minnesota (1-1-0) fell one spot in the USCHO Women's Division I Poll after a season-opening split last weekend. WCHA rival Wisconsin grabbed the top spot in the poll, sitting at 4-0-0 on the season and supplanting No. 2 Clarkson with 10-of-15 first place votes.
Previously: Merrimack surprised the Gophers in the team’s official season opener with a 4-3 victory at Ridder Arena, but Minnesota bounced back in game two with a 4-1 win to claim the split.
Up Next: The Maroon & Gold open WCHA play this weekend as Ohio State comes to town. The Gophers face the Buckeyes at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
No. 6 Gopher Volleyball
Minnesota (13-2) dropped three spots in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll this week, including giving up its final first-place vote after dropping just the team’s second match of the season. Florida remains the top-ranked team in the nation with 60-of-64 first place votes.
Previously: The Gophers stumbled for the second time in Big Ten play against new-No. 4 Nebraska on Friday night but bounced back with a sweep of Iowa in Iowa City on Saturday.
Up Next: The Maroon & Gold returns to the court tonight (Wednesday) against No. 7 Wisconsin and continues on the road Saturday at No. 22 Michigan. The Gophers finally return to Maturi Pavilion in just seven days with Purdue arriving in Minneapolis next Wednesday.

Minnesota enters the season ranked 17th after closing out the 2016-17 campaign at no. 19. The U is the fourth-highest ranked Big Ten team in the Preseason TYR/CSCAA Division I Women’s Poll.
Previously: The Gophers hosted their alumni meet last Friday night at the Freeman Aquatic Center and welcomed Gopher alum Haley Spencer to the Minnesota Aquatics Hall of Fame.

Minnesota held steady in this week’s USTFCCCA Division I Coaches Poll, ranked 20th nationally and second in the Midwest region. Iowa State, ranked first in the region, dropped one spot and now sits just two places ahead of the U of M at 18th.
Previously: The Gophers split the team between a pair of locations last week and finished fourth at both events with Abby Lange’s 11th place finish leading Minnesota at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Friday night and three runners landing in the top-eight at the Greater Louisville Classic 5K on Saturday morning.
Up Next: The Maroon & Gold return to the course next weekend, once again splitting the team between two races and competing at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison on Friday and the Tori Neubauer Invitational in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Saturday.
