ROSEMONT, Ill. - For their work in the classroom, 95 University of Minnesota student-athletes were honored Wednesday with Academic All-Big Ten recognition. Each one, representing eight different sports, achieved success by meeting the criteria - students must be in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Women’s swimming and diving led the Gophers with 23 honorees, followed by men’s ice hockey (16), wrestling (15), men’s swimming and diving (12), women’s gymnastics (10), men’s gymnastics (9), women’s basketball (8) and men’s basketball (2).
Two different Gopher student-athletes have maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages, in women’s swimming & diving senior Mariam Khamis and wrestling senior Chris Farr.
A total of 872 student-athletes from the 14 member institutions of the Big Ten Conference were recognized.
