Here's a look at it. It's a long article, much more at the link:

The Gophers held a closed scrimmage Tuesday, which was viewed as a critical time to evaluate the most important position on the field. On Thursday, Fleck said he has seen improvement from both Annexstad and Morgan, and further indicated that both will play this season, a setup similar to last season with Demry Croft and Conor Rhoda, neither of whom is with the team.

“They’re getting better,” Fleck said of his two quarterbacks. “I said at the beginning of camp, even in the first week, they are making 400 (course) level mistakes, not 100 level mistakes. When I say that I mean they are running the system the way we want them to run the system.”

Fleck says choosing his quarterback comes down to three things: taking care of the football, “decisive decision-making” and “winning the team.”

“These guys are leading our football team with zero performance, with zero feathers in their cap,” Fleck said. “… That’s very difficult to do. That is very difficult for our player looking at them saying, ‘OK, I trust you.’ … But we’re getting there, and they’ve grown up a lot.”

Here are the foundations Morgan and Annexstad built in high school:...

Morgan threw four touchdowns that game, but his career and Ryle’s season ended in a 42-40 loss. Earlier that season, he became the 10th quarterback in Kentucky history to eclipse 10,000 career passing yards.

Morgan’s best trait?

“He would be the first one to congratulate you and he would be the first one to take the blame, even thought it might not be him,” Engler said. “… He always found a way to get us in the right play and delivered the football.”

Busy trying to win the starting job, Morgan has taken time to telephone Ryle’s current quarterback, Jake Smith, to offer advice and encouragement...

Annexstad didn’t complain about being a senior backup, Wright said. And midway through the season, Annexstad replaced Sitkowski as IMG’s starter. Sitkowski flipped his commitment to Rutgers, and could be the Scarlet Knights’ starter this season.

“It became apparent that (Annexstad) probably was the guy,” Wright said. “Not because Art did anything wrong or there were issues with Art, but the confidence level that (Annexstad) had and that he brought to the offense. … He was good on the big stage.”

Annexstad, who is listed on the Gophers’ roster at 6 feet 3, turned down scholarships offers from Illinois, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh to attend Minnesota, joining his brother, wide receiver Brock, and following their father, Scott, who was a Gophers lineman from 1981-83 before a stint in the NFL...
