SAN FRANCISCO – As the No. 21-ranked Minnesota Baseball team celebrated its seventh-straight series victory and prepared to attempt a three-game sweep in Columbus on Saturday evening, a former Gopher made his Major League debut on the west coast as the San Francisco Giants recalled left handed pitcher D.J. Snelten from the minor leagues for game two of their doubleheader with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Snelten becomes the 35th player from Minnesota to crack a big league roster, finding out on his way to the minor league park in Sacramento that he needed to reverse course and head to San Francisco.

The 2013 ninth-round draft pick did not have to wait long before hearing his name called from the bullpen as he entered in the eighth inning of the 8-3 victory for the Giants, striking out one while allowing a hit and a walk in 1.1 innings of work.

Snelten remains on the 25-man roster ahead of Sunday’s game as San Francisco optioned right-hander Derek Law to AAA to clear the 26th roster spot for the doubleheader. The Giants once again take on the Dodgers today beginning at 2:05 p.m. PT.

Back in Columbus, the Gophers will take on Ohio State in game three of their Big Ten series at 1:05 p.m. ET.
