Gophers still have a chance at 7 all-Americans as we enter tonights session IV. We already have two AA, with Soph Ethan Lizak at 125 and Sr Brett Pfarr at 197 lbs into the semifinals tonight on ESPN.
In addition, the other five wrestlers need to win one more Mia ch, those being Mitch McKee at 133, Tommy Thorn at 141, Jake Short at 157, Nate Wanzek at 165 and Mike Kroells at Hwt. Unfortunately, on paper, 4 of the 5 above are not favored, but upsets galore happen at this tournament. McKee and Wanzek have already outwrestled their seed.
In the semifinals, Lizak is favored at 125 and Pfarr will try to avenge his Big Ten final loss to super frosh Moore from tOSU.
The Gophers are sitting a very respectable 7th now and can chase a top 5 spot with another good round tonight, a great feat in this tumultuous year.
Hopefully, we can keep the momentum of the Steveson commitment into another good round.
