Yes, we have played inferior teams athletically but we have some positives, for sure. We have outscored our opponents 87-27 in the 3 games...The defense has had good coaching by Robb Smith and staff but as importantly, GREAT LEADERSHIP from Blake Cashman, Carter Coughlin, and Antoine WInfield..... You know the offense, AS YOUNG AS IT IS, is going to have incredible inconsistency... Today, basically it was TJ Johnson, Bryce WIlliams, and Zach Annexstad that carried us.. Our defense has given the offense a chance to grow and for that, I am very thankful.
Now 2 NEW EXPERIENCES in one week.... The FIRST ROAD GAME for the freshmen and the FIRST BIG TEN GAME... This is when we need leadership within the team, on and off the field... Knowing how to prepare the day before the game when not in your own campus room.. Getting enough rest without screwing around all night before next Saturday's game... Handle possible smart alec to vulgar comments from opposing fans at THEIR STADIUM...Focusing on the task at hand.... It is a NEW EXPERIENCE to do that on the road, because in HS, there are few if any games on the road that players will stay in a hotel overnight.... Plus the pressure of starting the Big Ten season with wanting to get that first conference win against basically talent that is equal to your own...
WE DID GOOD TODAY, GUYS!!!!!! Now, our guys are going to learn new lessons where they may succeed or fail... If you have played or coached ever, this is exciting times in the process of DEVELOPMENT, which is one of my favorite parts of sport... The Gophers are building a great foundation and leadership so these are necessary steps to build a winning program... SKI-U-MAH and great victory today, Gophers!!!
