When I lived in St Paul and then Fargo as a kid, I can NEVER remember having school cancelled because of snow or winter cold. I can remember it getting real cold and wearing ski masks, 3 layers of clothes, heavy boots and winter coat, gloves, etc.
When I moved to Ohio, it was the first ever that I had heard of schools closing or delaying because of weather. I am not trying to throw the "when we were kids, we hiked 5 miles in the snow....MACHO argument" out there. I am just wondering if I had selective memory. When did Minnesota close schools for the first time for winter weather or cold?? I understand rural areas with the busing but I remember walking through streets to school and around big snowdrifts. Has Minnesota always closed schools in bad weather or is my memory correct in saying that Minnesota and North Dakota never used to close schools??
