2 Indiana college basketball legends, Scott May and Rick Mount, will be inducted in the college basketball Hall of Fame. Maybe some will be interested to read a little bit of their phenomenal college careers plus a few things beyond that.

Scott May is from about an hour east of me, in Sandusky, Ohio(graduated from same HS as Orlando Pace). I had some dealings with his brother, the late Charles May, over the years as he was a principal at a large junior high school in nearby Fremont(home of Charles Woodson). I rented a couple of their 3 gyms, a few times and helped kids set up for events with his supervision Anyways, Scott was a legend at Indiana and the college player of the year on the last undefeated D1 college basketball team in '75-'76.. For younger readers, the '74-'75 team was probably even better as 4 of their 5 starters were first team all Big Ten... No team could brag about that since then. Scott May broke his arm against Purdue at the end of the season then lost a rematch game to Kentucky by 1 point, as a result. After the undefeated season, Scott was drafted number 2 in the next NBA draft for the Chicago Bulls where he made first team all rookie.. Scott ended up playing in Italy for awhile then returned to Bloomington, Indiana.. He has one of the largest real estate businesses in Bloomington and owns a substantial percentage of apartment buildings in the area, employing 100's of people. His son Sean of course led North Carolina to a National Championship making them one of only 4 father/son duos to win national championships. I think Scott's other son, Scott Jr, lives in Bloomington also after sitting the bench as a walkon for the 2002 national finalist Indiana team.

Makes me kinda sad that his dad did not get the chance to see him inducted.... His dad, Charles May Sr, died at age 92 this past September.... Charles Sr. was married for 73 years to his wife, which is notable in and of itself.. Scott's oldest brother and sister plus many nieces and nephews, live right around my area.

Rick Mount basketball great from Purdue, is said to have one of the prettiest jumpshots to ever grace the Big Ten. Mount is a very very very private man.. Not arrogant nor a recluse but highly private.. That had made a lot of Purdue alumni mad over the years...Mount is the first high school athlete to ever be put on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He scored 57 points in a Indiana HS game that drew over 10,000 fans at Hinkle Arena... He was an Indiana HS legend in Lebanon, which is in central Indiana..

He was recruited to a school only 35 miles away, which was Purdue, so he stayed home, basically, his whole life.. His team helped open Mackey Arena, where they lost a nail biter to UCLA(yes John Wooden took his UCLA squad to return to his alma mater to open the new arena, at the time). Mount led Purdue to a title game, which is their first and only trip to the finals. MOUNT NEVER WON NCAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AS HE HAD TO COMPETE WITH LEW ALCINDOR AND PETE MARAVICH FOR THE HONOR.. Though Mount averaged over 50% shooting from the field as an outside player, where Maravich was below 47% throughout his career. After gaining the career scoring title in all of the Big Ten, he never really wanted to return to campus. Mount made it clear to the NBA that he wanted to sign and play for the Indiana Pacers, who were in the ABA at the time, so Mount never played in the NBA.

The strain of Purdue wanting him to come back became even tougher as his son Richie, got recruited and played for Gene Keady.... Richie, is an Indiana HS basketball legend in his own right, but was made fun of as a gunner in HS.. Things did not work out for Richie at his Dad's alma mater so he transferred.. Did not endear Mount to Keady, for sure. Purdue gave Woody Austin the #10 jersey, which no player had worn since Mount... Not that they need to ask, they didnt let Mount know that and the number was not retired.. Made things tougher yet as Purdue already felt a bit miffed that Mount had not come back to campus on numerous occasions that the Boilermakers wanted to honor him.... Recently, Mount did return to campus under his banner in the rafters of Mackey.

Mount still lives in Lebanon, Indiana where his son Richie also lives, as a police officer.. He is someone that always looks anxious to finish a conversation and just does not want to talk about the glory years at Purdue, for whatever his reason. It will be interesting to see if he goes out of character to give an acceptance speech at the college bball HOF induction.. He is getting close to 70 years old so he probably has mellowed a bit over the years... Getting him to just show up for it may be the biggest task. BOTH OF THESE GUYS ARE CONFERENCE GREATS AND DESERVING OF THE HALL OF FAME.

I just realized that after typing this, that this is not Gopher related.. Sorry guys, as I know you will have to move this to DT.
