For the coaches and players, its the same routine as every week.. Preparation, practicing execution, confidence in the game plan, then play the game.. I have been a Minnesota sports fan for a long time and am well aware of the trap games or losing when we expect to win.. It has happened my whole life.. But as a FAN, I have the privilege to think ahead a little bit, which is not true for the team or coaches... I think this is a game that PJ and team should EXPECT to win. We should beat Illinois.
Look, we beat a ranked team in Fresno State with a young team.. That is their ONLY loss of the year, so far.. That is impressive.. If we are going to grow as a program, one of those next steps is winning games consistently that WE SHOULD WIN and I believe Illinois is one of those games.. It is on the road so that is a confidence builder in itself, to win a road game in the Big Ten.. Yes, we never want to get ahead of ourselves but playing and exceeding expectations is a step that must occur if we are going to be a winning squad..
Now BEING REAL PRESUMPTIVE, lets say we beat Illinois... Then we are one win from bowl eligibility... No doubt, we will be underdogs in the last 3 games, which could really work to our advantage... Very little expectation from the public and maybe even our own fanbase...We should be able to play loose and show the world what type of young talent is on this team. Purdue and Northwestern at home, then Wisconsin on the road.. We literally have nothing to lose in those last games.. The average fan would think we will get throttled by those 3 teams.. Personally, I think we can beat Wisconsin this year.. Purdue played out of their minds against Ohio State and the Moore kid and the RB are dynamic playmakers for sure. I think they present a very difficult matchup for us. Northwestern has 2 very difficult games coming up and who knows how beaten up they will be after those games when they go to play us. Remember, they still had 2 early season losses to average teams though they are a different team now.. I think we can potentially steal one of those 3 remaining games and bowl eligibility is not that far off.. Just have to take care of business this week at Champaign.
