Kirk Herbstreit may have done his math a little bit wrong on the air but his point was made... I used it to post figures as he said that the previous 2 games were 110 points total.. Then, adding in the Clemson game, what would have been 152 points... The truth is that you can subtract 10 points from that as the Georgia plus Oklahoma scores added to 100, which then added to the Clemson score equalled 142 points... Still, AVERAGING 47 points a game against 3 "TOP 5" programs, is incredible..Then, if you put the Alabama game into the equation, LSU scored 188 points total in the 4 games against top 5 teams, which maintains that 47 point per game average AGAINST 4 "TOP 5"(at the time of the games) opponents. I am not sure I have ever seen offense like that..

The only thing close in my memory, I remember the 1983 Nebraska team that put up 84 points against our Gophers had something like 650+ points, total, that year.. But if you remember, they played only 1 "TOP 5" team that year, and that was the first game of the year against Penn State.. Nebraska won 44-6.. But Nebraska had 2 LOW SCORING and CLOSE games that year against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State before they were upset by Miami in the Orange Bowl..

LSU definitely earned the national championship with the most prolific offense I have ever seen in a P5 team... BUT THEY HAD ONE GAME WHERE THEY SCORED LESS THAN 30 POINTS!! That was the Auburn game, which was played at LSU's home in Baton Rouge. They won 23-20... To me, that is a testament to how good the Auburn defense was, this year.. To hold that record breaking offense to 23 points.

FOR MINNESOTA to SCORE 31 POINTS AGAINST AUBURN to LSU's 23 points against that same defense, shows that Minnesota has a lot to be proud of on offense..BOTH GAMES HAD A LOT ON THE LINE, FOR AUBURN... It is fun to watch both Tanner Morgan and Joe Burrow play QB against any defense... Defenses try to disguise coverages in pre-snap alignments. But at the end of the day, Morgan and Burrow both know that you can't double team everyone, on pass plays.. So Tanner has the similar ability that Burrow does in being able to recognize the single coverage on one of the team's talented receivers... Both Tanner and Burrow know that they have receivers that you can't cover, man to man, on most plays. So Tanner can find those guys really quick with the right read, and then execute the play successfully.. That is good QB play.. Tanner made quick reads and Tyler Johnson made fantastic plays against a really good defense.. Also key plays from Mo Ibrahim, Bryce Witham, and Rashod Bateman.

I know much of this has been rehashed but if you take time to let it sink in, this Minnesota team was so special that it demonstrated its capability BY OUTPLAYING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, when comparing their matchup with a common opponent. This year is so special that I feel there can never be enough posts on how well the Gophers showed, for this season... I take time to consider what the Gophers have done, each day, and I become more in awe of the season each time I consider it.
