Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim and quarterback Tanner Morgan were named to the Maxwell Award Watch List today. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the outstanding player in college football and was first handed out in 1937.

Ibrahim and Morgan are two of 80 players on the list and Minnesota is only of only 14 schools to have two individuals recognized.

Ibrahim has been named a preseason All-American by Athlon Sports, Phil Steele Publications and the Walter Camp Foundation.

Last season, Ibrahim was named Big Ten Running Back of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team and AP Third-Team All-America after rushing 201 times (25th most in school single-season history) for 1,076 yards (23rd most in school single season-history) and 15 touchdowns (most ever for a junior at Minnesota and ranks fourth in school-single season history).

He led the Big Ten in the following categories: rushing attempts (201), rushing yards (1,076), rushing yards per game (153.7), rushing touchdowns (15), scoring (90), points per game (12.9) and all-purpose yards per game (168.4). Ibrahim also set a school record with a rushing average of 153.7 yards per game and tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns in a one game (did so at Maryland and at Illinois).

Ibrahim ranks ninth on Minnesota's career rushing list with 2,840 yards despite playing in only 28 games. He ranks tied for sixth in school history with 31 rushing touchdowns and his 5.49 yards per carry average ranks eighth all-time in school history (minimum 200 carries) while his 517 carries ranks 12th. He ranks tied for first in school history with three career 200-yard rushing games and ranks first in school history with eight straight 100-yard rushing games (1/1/20 - 12/19/20).

Morgan is 18-8 as a starter and has completed 405 passes (seventh most in school history) of 653 attempts (eighth most in school history) for 6,028 yards (sixth most in school history) in his career. His career completion percentage of .620 (405-of-623) ranks first in school history and his 46 career touchdown passes ranks fourth. Morgan threw a touchdown pass in a school-record 18 consecutive games from Dec. 26, 2018 to Nov. 13, 2020.

Morgan owns 11 Minnesota season and game records and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2020. In 2019, he was named All-Big Ten Second Team (2019), a Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist and a Manning Award finalist (2019).
