When Lefty has a few bad holes, he seems disinterested in the whole round, anymore.. He needs to get on a birdie streak to get interested.. Does not seem to have the mental wherewithall anymore to grind through it when things get a little bit ugly.
The 2 things I see happen to most pro golfers when they age is losing distance on the clubs and the concentration on putting.. Phil can still hit it out there with the best BUT HAS TO KEEP IT IN THE FAIRWAYS.. Not hitting in the fairways is why he has not won a US OPEN yet. The other thing, putting, has to be that when he gets within 15-20 feet of the cup, he has to make a few and NEVER 3 putt from those spots. His putting has been so so this year, except when he won early in the year at Pebble Beach and maybe a few tournaments before.
His chipping and approaches, his long standing strength of his game, have been spotty recently as well but I just think he needs a few good rounds to get it turned around mentally.. I think the talent is there to still win majors but I question the mental part of his game, at this stage.. He has won a lot of money in life and never has to earn a penny more to live a comfortable life, for now until death. Maybe he is not hungry enough anymore, I dont know.. I thought the British Open would be the tournament to hold him back from the career Grand Slam but I think it may end up being the US Open.. What do you think??
