Here are your pregame TGR reads:
Don't have time to read the stories? Here's a summary of Buffalo: They were one of the very worst teams in the FBS last season. Their quarterback is 6'7", 245 pounds and somewhat mobile. He was mediocre as a freshman last season but showed signs of potential. All other major contributors at the skill positions graduated. The interior offensive line is a strength of the team. The offense runs a spread almost entirely out of shotgun with a single back, and the defense runs a 4-3 and blitzes conservatively. The defensive line is poor but massive. The linebacker group returns three starters and is the strength of the defense, led by Khalil Hodge. The secondary was poor last year but returns three starters. The Bulls are led by Lance Leipold, who won six Division-III national championships at Buffalo.

Vegas has Minnesota winning by 24-25 points. TeamRankings (a computer ranking) predicts the Gophers will be the No. 53 team this year and Buffalo No. 125.

I'm predicting a 38-10 Gopher victory. Here are other predictions:
  • Andy Greder, Pioneer Press: Gophers 35-17
  • Randy Johnson, Star Tribune: Gophers 34-10
  • Kyle McCormick, UB Bull Run: Gophers 27-17
