Gents, I hit the road last night to go out and see talent. The Gophs have two scholarships to give (in addition to Michael Hurt) but who will be the main targets? The coaches plan to be everywhere seeing 2016 and 2017 talent. Here are some places.
Charlotte. Under Armour All American Camp. This starts actually today and college coaches can come watch starting Wednesday. The event goes through Friday night and is sponsored by Rivals so there will be a load of reports on the guys there but this network. Looking through the list of talent targets for the Gophs include: Devon Daniels, Jeriah Horne, Reed Nikko, Rashond Salnave, Sid Wilson, Isaiah Washington, Ishmael El-Amin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, etc
Me: I was going to go there but considering I just talked to all the MN 2016 kids recently and that there will be reports on all of these guys constantly, I felt it better to head further south (also helps that PHN is paying for my hotels down there). He will see headlines from UAA on here but from the Rivals people there.
Atlanta. The Adidas championships. The Hurt brothers Michael and Matthew are there as will be Goanar Mar from the local D1 Minnesota team. As far as other talents? The Louisville kids were watched closely by Pitino and staff in April but of course those guys have moved on (Holman, Goodin). Gorjok Gak, Kobe King, Brian Bowen, others that they haven talked to are in Atlanta.
Me: I’m staying in Atlanta so I will spend half my time there.
Peach Jam. The Nike event. Now, because Rivals.com and Under Armour are doing this event in Charlotte together Nike won’t allow Rivals.com employees to have press passes at their event. But, I’ll be there observing and of course tweeting and bringing you reports. Nike is of course where most the MN kids out of state that the Gophs are looking at will be. Shamorie Ponds, Kevin Marfo, Jagan Mosely, Xavier Sneed, Quinton Rose, Zach Norvell, Willie Jackson, and there are also 16U teams down there too.
Me: I will be driving east for one or two days to see the talent at the Peach Jam. Of course. I’m not allowed to interview them but I will observe and tell you what I see and who is watching them closely.
Chicago. The talent there, not the best. But Pulley is in the event and the Gophs will likely be there watching. Top target Theo John is injured and we aren’t sure if he will play. Amir Coffey is on the roster sent in by Pulley but will he play? The talent level in Pulley’s first three games would be perfect for him to “get his feet wet” if Amir was to play. Gary Trent Jr is of course there too. Jarvis Thomas, a 2018 is also here with MN Lockdown.
Me: On my way back I’m thinking of watching them Saturday night.
Milwaukee. Good event that will have a few guys they may check up on. The Gophs have been talking to a lot of 2017 Wisconsin kids but Im not sure where Playground Elite 16U is, so they may be here. Could be in the side Peach Jam event too. McKinley Wright is playing here. I’d guess the Gophs will be there for a day as well.
Me: I will be there Sunday, maybe Saturday.
Others. There is a Hoop Group camp in Philly, a quality east coast event that will have UAA teams, an event in LA, etc. Teams all over.
