Everyone all over the country remembers the Mauk brothers, Ben and Maty. They were 2 of the most prolific statistical QBs ever to play in high school. Ben played at Wake Forest then Cincinnati.. Maty is at Missouri, right now. Well, Ben's father Mike moved from Kenton, Ohio to Springfield, Missouri to be near his son in college as well as his daughter who is also in the area.
Ben moved along with his parents and became the offensive coordinator for his Dad at Springfield Glendale.... They aren't a very good team yet but have a sophomore QB who is putting up video game numbers.. The kid's name is Alex Huston(2018) and he has 22 touchdown passes and 1704 yards passing in 3 games so far. Their defense stinks so they are 1-2. (If you are averaging over 7 TD passes a game and your team is losing more than winning, your defense is horrible). ANYWAYS....The downside to this kid is he is only 6-0 155lbs and you never know if you are just getting a 'system guy' in Mike Mauk's offense. But he is strong for his size just like Ben and Maty were at the same age. Alex is also from Kenton, Ohio and moved to Springfield, Missouri to play for Mike Mauk and that spread system.
Mike Mauk is a motivator extraordinaire.. He can "SELL IT" with the best of them. He gets 'down-and out' kids to believe in themselves like few others can do. If you have ever seen Kenton, it is "hillbilly USA" in Ohio. You know if your town's big event is the 'COON DOG TRIALS", which is reknowned nationally, you basically have a shotgun inside the door of most of the households of that community. Nothing wrong with that as they have a lot of hunters/fishermen in the area. They had nothing, sports wise, before Mike got there. An old railroad town made up of German farmers, Amish, and rednecks who were/are struggling. Mike worked through that and eventually built a winner by the time Ben came through. Well, during the time Alex was very young, Ben graduated from college and Alex's dad wanted Ben to teach Alex everything. SO Alex went to Ben's camp to learn footwork and to learn the mental side of the game.. Mike actually knows very little about formations but is thorough in teaching reads and progressions for his QBs in basically 3-5 different plays in the huddle. Mike was a baseball player more than football in high school at Lima Bath. Mike is dedicated to working with these kids, on the field and off, so Alex took to that. Ben is now the brains of the offense as far as QB technique and formation establishment. Ben is a great kid, probably the nicest of the 3 Mauk brothers. Very patient as a person. Alex is learning and he will have statistics rivaling Ben and Maty, if he stays healthy. Just thought it interesting as a name to remember.
