MITTELSTADT UP FOR B1G FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey’s Casey Mittelstadt has been named one of three finalists for the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday. The Big Ten award winners and All-Big Ten teams will be announced on Tuesday, March 13.
A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mittelstadt ranks second among Gophers this year with 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 34 games with the Maroon & Gold – one point off the team’s scoring lead. The forward ranks tied for sixth among all NCAA freshmen with 30 points.
The Buffalo Sabres prospect also helped the U.S. National Junior Team claim a bronze medal earlier this season at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y. Mittelstadt was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after leading the event with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in seven games.
Minnesota will learn of its fate for the NCAA tournament when the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship bracket is announced on Sunday, March 18.
