Minnesota TE Breyvn Spann-Ford named to Mackey Award watchlist
Minnesota sixth-year tight end Breyvn Spann-Ford has been named to the preseason Mackey Award watch list on Friday. The Mackey Award is annually given out to the nation's best tight end.
Spann-Ford is coming off a terrific senior season for the Golden Gophers, totaling 42 receptions for 497 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2022 has totaled 70 receptions for 822 yards and five touchdowns in his career with the Golden Gophers.
On top of being named to the Mackey Award watch list this preseason, Spann-Ford has also been named to the East-Wet Shrine Bowl 1000, earned Big Ten Preseason Honors, and was a preseason First-Team All-Big Ten selection by College Football News, Pro Football Focused, Phil Steele, and Sports Info Solutions.
The Golden Gophers will go towards Spann-Ford to be an integral part of their offense this fall and to be a primary target of quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis. He will also lead a tight end room that also features Nick Kallerup, Jameson Geers, Nathan Jones, and Pierce Walsh.
