The Gophers turned out to have played some good NCAA teams outside the Big Ten.... Arkansas, Alabama, Miami...LIU Brooklyn..We ended up playing some very good teams.
NCAA LOVES THE "LONE STAR" STATE.... 7 teams from the state of Texas in the NCAA tournament... Houston, Texas Southern, Stephen F Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, and Texas Tech.
Probably the fewest teams combined I ever remember coming from Indiana and Kentucky combined since at-large bids were given. Only 4 teams(Purdue, Butler, Murray State and Kentucky)
Florida got their 3 big schools in. South Dakota State with another bid. No Wisconsin or Iowa teams, Thank goodness.
You can drive your car about an hour and pass through the campuses of 4 NCAA tournament qualifying schools(NC STATE, NC CENTRAL, NORTH CAROLINA, AND DUKE)..... UNC Greensboro and Davidson are in North Carolina as well but quite a bit farther away.
