Like Minnesota, Nebraska's dealt with a lot of injuries this season. Quarterback Tanner Lee was once thought of as a possible NFL prospect. He's been a little underwhelming this year but is still a solid Big Ten quarterback. He's a gunslinging pocket passer with a strong arm and isn't afraid to take chances. He has three excellent receiving options in Stanley Morgan, De'Mornay Pierson-El, and JD Spielman. Nebraska lost their starting running back Tre Bryant, a former Gopher target, to injury. Devine Ozigbo, a 230-pound bruiser, has taken his place but is averaging just 4.0 yards per carry. The Nebraska line is solid and ranks 20th in adjusted line yards, a measure of an offensive line's effectiveness in the run game. The line is led by left tackle Nick Gates and left guard Jerald Foster.
The Huskers run a 3-4 defense with two-gap defensive lineman who are all big but have struggled to get penetration in the backfield. The front seven is led by inside linebacker Chris Weber, a Campbell Trophy Award Finalist who's not overly athletic but a fundamentally sound linebacker. The secondary is stronger than the front seven and features a big cornerback in 6'3", 210 pound Lamar Jackson. Nebraska typically plays quarters or cover 3 on first and second down and doesn't blitz often.
