Once the Gophers had a solid lead, started to feel sorry for Romero, the NMSU QB. Why? Because of all those drops. Wasn't like last couple of years for the Gophers, when any pass, no matter how badly thrown, was considered a "drop". Even if the receiver had to reach back and barely got a finger, let alone a hand, on the ball.

Nope, last night Romero was putting the balls in the chest of, or in both hands of the receiver. Then they dropped it.

Seemed to change in the 2nd Half, Romero did end-up going 29 for 58. That 3 step and throw did help complete most of those passes. Probably not a coincidence that when the Gophers finally started to play a very tight Defense on those Wideouts, it kept the Aggies off the scoreboard. Passes weren't dropped, they were soundly defensed. The Aggies had no Running Game against Wyoming or last night against the Gophers, to take any pressure off of that Passing Game either.

Did lay out two things though. NMSU needs to find a running game and quickly. The other? When the Gophers start playing better teams, they may have the talent in their Defensive Backfield to stay in a man-to-man and allow for a lot of stunts and blitzing to create havoc for a stronger Opponent's Passing Game too.

We may find out about that next Saturday against California State University, Fresno.
