it seemed clear, to my untrained eye at least, that our biggest weakness last night was the O Line's inability to control the line of scrimmage in both running and passing situations. This raises a question, but first some background.
This is Limegrover's fifth year at the helm of the offense and as the OL position coach. Each year we have been very pleased with our recruiting at this position and each year in training we have learned just how well this unit has progressed in the weight room, gaining strength and weight. Yet each year we have had an ineffective OL. Why?
First, our OL has been continually and significantly depleted with injuries. My question to the group is how does our injury rate compare with other B1G teams? It seems to me that Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa have not had the same OL injury issues as we have had. However, this is an anecdotal observation and, quite frankly, not worth a dang. The question is does anyone have statistics to determine if this is really the case? In other words, how does Minnesota's injury rate compare within the power 5 conferences?
If our injury rate is out of whack with the norm of other schools this raises other important questions.
Secondly, our OL does not, to me, appear to be particularly effective, even when healthy. We seem to do alright with the run but our pass protection has never seemed very good. I may be way off base, but after 5 years is it time for Limegrover to hire an experienced OL position coach with a proven track record?
