OXFORD - Ole Miss has announced a self-imposed one-year bowl ban for the 2017 season after a new notice of allegations alleges significant charges against the school.
"Earlier today, our outside legal counsel received the university's notice of allegations dealing with the football program," Chancellor Jeff Vitter said.
There are now 21 allegations into the football program, eight are new. Ole Miss has also been charged with a lack of institutional control.
"The charge replaces the more limited failure to monitor charge in the January 2016 Notice of Allegations," Ross Bjork, Ole Miss' athletic director, said. "This is charged as a Level I violation that we will contest."
Ole Miss received its original notice of allegations on Jan. 30 2016. There were 13 violations tied to the football program. Four were tied to former coach Houston Nutt, while the rest occurred under Hugh Freeze's tenure.

The school had 90 days to release its response to the notice and did so on May 27.
But after former Ole Miss offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil admitted he took money from Rebels coaches on NFL Draft night the investigation was reopened.
In August, Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde reported that the NCAA enforcement staff granted immunity to players at Mississippi State and Auburn in order to gain information about Ole Miss' recruitment of them.
The rest of the violations in the prior notice dealt with women's basketball and track and field. The NCAA handed down those penalties in October and separated those cases from the football program.
