The only one of the Gopher commits from the 2018 class that is from Ohio WHO IS NOT GOING TO BE IN THE HS PLAYOFFS is Thomas Rush from Marysville... Their team had a very tough year and missed the playoffs here in Ohio. The others, Jornell Manns, Brennan Armstrong, Alex Reigelsperger, and Austin Beier, will all be playing for teams that will be in the playoffs.

Note to those who follow the recruits, ESPECIALLY SLAB OF BACON!!!! I did not read the Ohio HS football meeting minutes by the state's athletic commissioners from the spring/summer of last year that said that all games in the first 4 weeks of the 2017 playoffs will be on FRIDAYS. So what I said about SATURDAY games was incorrect... The state officials did this so that the colleges could scout the HS teams on Fridays where they would not have that ability for teams that played on Saturdays, which was the way it turned out previous to this year. Plus players from playoff teams playing on Saturdays could not visit college campuses in the fall because they were preparing for a game. With the earlier signing period, this makes a lot more sense.. So no Saturday games until the state finals... It used to be that I could check the dates of the football finals and the divisions that had finals on Saturdays would play their playoff games on Saturdays all the way through the playoffs.. That is why I said that Mansfield(Jornell Manns) and Shelby(Brennan Armstrong) would play on Saturdays. Now that is NOT TRUE and they will play up to the next 4 weeks on Fridays.

JORNELL MANNS' 8-2 Mansfield team plays an undefeated team from the Cleveland area, Bay High School... Bay has 4 shutouts and 2 other games where they gave up 3 and 7 points. Will be tough.. Game at Bay. They are Division 3.

ALEX REIGELSPERGER's Huber Heights WAYNE team was 7-3 but their 3 losses were to teams with a combined record of 29-1.. The team they will be playing host to, Pickerington North( A Columbus area school) has an 8-2 record and its 2 losses were to teams with a combined record of 18-2.. SO these teams will both be very good and should be a great game. They are Division 1.

AUSTIN BEIER's 6-4 Toledo St Johns squad pulled off the upset of the year in NW Ohio as they beat Toledo Central Catholic the last game of the season... That upset got them into the playoffs. St Johns will have their work cut out for them as they face the number one team in their region, Avon( a school west of Cleveland), who is undefeated. Will be tough for St Johns to advance to the next round. Division 2 schools.

BRENNAN ARMSTRONG is leading his undefeated Shelby Whippets into the playoffs as one of the favorites as they host a first round game against 8-2 Wauseon, a team from west of Toledo.. I think that Shelby may have a tough time to start in this game but once they find their rhythm as a team, they should advance with little problem to the 2nd round.. These are Division 4 schools.
