I feel Memorial Day is becoming just a good day to BBQ and drink. or maybe some other activity on a day off, without remembering the true meaning... There seems to also be a disconnect in the VFW, after WWII, Korea, and Vietnam as young vets do not want to be bothered by it... Plus some of the older vets in some VFW chapters are "cliquish" and dont want younger vets in their organizations. The WWII vets are almost all gone and the Korean vets are, as well.... They seemed to shun the Vietnam vets, who I would like to always give my respect, and few of the ones who fought in the Middle East join the VFW. Yes it is a celebration of the vets who gave their lives but the VFW's have to be the contact point to keep the traditions and parades to celebrate our vets.
My Dad and brother are Army vets and I am proud of their service.. I also have the ultimate respect for all of you that served our country, regardless of branch.. Thank you and keep our traditions to honor our soldiers that gave their lives for our freedoms.
