M Club Calls on Quincy Lewis to Lead
Lewis, an All-American basketball player at Minnesota and Gopher Athletics employee for the past six years, will take over as the M Club’s permanent director after serving in an interim capacity for the past eight months

MINNEAPOLIS - Gopher Athletics today announced Quincy Lewis as the new director of the M Club. Lewis, a familiar name for Gopher fans as a former men's basketball All-American and Gopher Athletics employee for the past six years, had been serving as the M Club's interim director for the past eight months.

"Quincy will instill of culture of excellence as the Director of the M Club that will champion, support, and preserve all that is Maroon and Gold," said Peyton Owens, senior associate athletics director and administrator overseeing the M Club. "He will strengthen the pride and passion of our alumni, student-athletes, and coaches, confirming their choice in the University of Minnesota."

"I was humbled to take over the M Club on an interim basis earlier this year and I'm grateful now to continue the work we've started as the permanent director," said Lewis. "My team and I have worked hard to strengthen the M Club and be a champion for all present, past, and future Gopher athletes. I'm excited to remain focused on that mission and have the opportunity to support every Gopher student-athlete and preserve the legacy of our alums."

It's been almost 25 years now since Lewis came from Little Rock, Ark., to play basketball at Minnesota. During his playing career, he developed into one of the top players in the Big Ten, winning the conference scoring title in 1998-99 and earning All-America recognition. His success as a Gopher led to the Utah Jazz selecting Lewis in the first round of the 1999 NBA Draft. He would go on to enjoy a 10 year pro career playing for the Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as several teams in Europe. Prior to turning pro, Lewis was selected to represent the U.S. at the 1998 Goodwill Games, contributing to the team's gold medal performance.

Since retiring from competitive basketball nine years ago, Lewis has stayed closely connected to the U of M, initially returning to earn his Master's degree in 2016 after graduating with a bachelor's degree in 2004, then joining Gopher Athletics as a fundraiser. Prior to his current assignment with the M Club, Lewis was also a programming director for the athletic department's student-athlete development team. As a member of the greater campus community, he sits on the University's College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Sciences Alumni Board.
