Obviously, Tyler Johnson is a playmaker, big time.... I saw Mark Williams open a fair share of times as well... It seems like their process of growth at the WR position is going in the right direction for a few anyways. That tells me that as the talent increases, we should see better results because the right things in teaching technique and motivation are there.

Now, that doesn't take away from the character that Johnson and Williams must have as the listeners and the appliers of the techniques they are learning...I have always thought that speed is a bit overrated at WR, Some guys have a good feel for how to get open that has nothing attached to a 40 yard dash time...They just understand how to get open and they seem to use their speed in smarter ways than others that make them better. Yes, running disciplined patterns is part of it and just having a feel for the open areas of the field against the defense. Then make things happen once the ball is in their hands. Yes a lot is natural but it takes a good coach to give technique to solidify that talent.

One of the things I have written about is the stats for Brennan Armstrong... The truth is that most of his passes are short to intermediate passes and the numerous very good skill guys catching the ball for Shelby HS get most of the yards after the catch...Stats show the result of the plays but not how the pass play was actually executed to get those yards. That is where the WRs can really help their QB and a good WR coach is a big part of that. I see that as the key to the Gophers passing game. Good routes by the WR and a feel for the openings on the defense as well as CATCHING THE BALL ONCE IT GETS TO THE RECEIVER and for the QB, look off that safety or LB and execute with an accurate pass. That 4th quarter gave me hope that we can see that improvement the rest of the season by the guys we have now, let alone the future.. Kudos to coach SImon and his WRs.. Just hoping to see that improvement continue in all the remaining games.
