His name was Jason Pellerin and he committed to Ole Miss.Originally posted by kekambas114:
Who was that QB from Louisiana we were recruiting for 2015/16, and any updates on him?
I take it by "unofficial commits" you mean silent verbals. Well I have heard there may be another one, but I'm working on getting more information about that.Originally posted by Coolew01:
Any estimate of current number of unofficial commits? Or any idea on the number of close commits?
There are a number of guys that guys and I'd say somewhere between three and five. These are guys that if Minnesota were to put the pressure on, they'd commit.
On the Seth Green front, nothing too much is new. He's camped and visited Texas and Michigan State and is in Oregon today at camp, but no offers from those schools. I've heard that he'll be back on campus at Minnesota next month.Originally posted by thebahr1888:
Anything new with Seth Green after his Texas visit? Any DB's we're close on?
Minnesota is sitting well for guys like Texas corner Antonio Shenault. I could list a few more, but all these guys share the same fate as they need to visit campus.
I'd say that the top spot goes to Canadian RB Jonathan Femi-Cole as he's a guy that the staff has been hard after for awhile and he'll be visiting for the BBQ in July.Originally posted by stlgopher:
What do you think the RB prospect "pecking order' is for the 2 open 2015 RB spots?
I would put John Kelly on this list, but from what I've heard lately, Minnesota is looking at Kelly as a CB now as that's his preference. I've also heard that Michigan State has been pressing hard for Kelly to commit and Kelly hasn't liked that too much. He'll be out in Minnesota next month for the BBQ.
So I'd go:
1) Femi-Cole
2) Alex Barnes
3) Shannon Brooks
4) Breck Turner
5) Le'Vonte Owens
Two guys to keep an eye on for the next RB offers to go out are Alabama's Junior Highlights)
Some offered guys who've expressed interest in Minnesota are Georgia's Marvin Robinson.Originally posted by Gopher it up:
Who are some WR prospects gophers have a shot at?
The BBQ is on July 20th and I have guys like Omari Stringer, John Kelly, Jonathan Femi-Cole, Matt Farniok, Junior McMullen, JoJo Garcia attending for now. Just under a month away, so I'll confirm more as it approaches.Originally posted by Neverender612:
Any update on what/when the "BBQ" is and who we expect to visit.
Also, is this an event we can expect offers to go out or is it mostly for players that already have offers. Thanks.
It's an event mostly for offered kids and commits to hang out with the staff and their families and some current players. But I wouldn't be surprised if an offer or two went out.
To me, it depends on what you guys call "quality". If you're looking for the four and five star guys to start visiting consistently, it's not going to happen. If you're looking for many of Minnesota's top targets (guys with offers already) to visit this fall, I think you'll see that more than ever before.Originally posted by Irwina:
A little twist on this, "Will the program's progression result in a significantly higher quality class come signing day, or has the staff reached their 'ceiling' here?" I know what I want the answer to be, but curious about you take on remaining headroom.Originally posted by Radiant1:
Will last season's on the field success actually translate into higher quality recruits coming in for official visits later this fall and winter (compared to years past)?
In the past, Minnesota hasn't received visits, let alone commits from a majority of the guys they've offered in the spring. This year, I'm really thinking that's starting to change. The things I'm hearing from the recruits compared to last year and the year before is that Minnesota is catching their eye more and more because of the results on the field. I don't think the "ceiling" for Kill recruits has even come close yet as I think if Minnesota can consistently win 8+ games over the next handful of years, you'll start to see the staff target higher and higher profile targets.
Femi-Cole is at the end of his camp tours and has camped at Tennessee, Wake Forest, North Carolina in recent days and is at Virginia and West Virginia this weekend. He'll be at the BBQ with his family in July and I think that a commitment is a real possibility.
The name you're looking for is Neville Gallimore and he's been been very quiet with the media lately. I know that the staff wants him badly and made him a point of emphasis during the spring. I think it's definitely an uphill battle for the Gophers though.Originally posted by gophergrits:
And the Canadian DE, whose name escapes me?
Plan A guys in my mind are McKinley Whitfield.Originally posted by jjfredericks:
Who are our Plan A guys at LB? Who else are we targeting and what our chances? Thanks Burnsie as always.
Minnesota's got pretty good chances with Waters and Whitfield and an uphill shot with Hart and McKee. The dark horse here is Saint-Amour as I think there's genuine interest in Minnesota and we'll see if he'll visit with his teammate Brown in October.
Minnesota is his the top two for Carlberg, so they're sitting well.Originally posted by gophmeister:
Where do we stand with Carlberg? Are we willing to wait until NSD is need be?
I am hearing though that this will not be a Frank Ragnow type deal like last year. Carlberg has been over to campus for multiple basketball games with the staff, different junior day events, a few practices and to just come over to the facility to talk with the staff. Carlberg has seen everything that Minnesota has to offer and the staff knows that. Ideally from what I'm hearing, the Gophers will want a decision before the start of the season because they want to know where they stand and if they need to just move on. There will be limited spots on the OL when that decision comes and there are a handful of guys who I think will happily fill that spot.
The guys you are talking about are Ben Ellefson and they'll both be camping with Minnesota in late July.Originally posted by JeffinSWM:
Kid from Fargo and Kid from Hawley...latest?
Thomas Barber will be at the elite Junior camp in July.Originally posted by BruceSmithGuy:
Has gthe youngest Barber been at any camps?
For the 2015 class, I'd say that Alex Hart has a great shot tomorrow.Originally posted by koppco1:
What in-state kids are likely to receive offers? What's the latest on Buirge, Corcoran, etc.?
For Buirge and Corcoran, I don't think Minnesota offers are in their future. They performed well at camp, but I don't believe that the Gophers will offer.
Sitting very well with most of them so far actually. We'll have to see what happens in the next few months as official visits are set up.Originally posted by crowley1974:
How are we sitting with some of the Georgia kids? And is Stringer a good bet to commit at the BBQ? Seems that way right now.
With Stringer, I don't care what he's telling the media elsewhere, Minnesota is his top school right now. I think that if Mom approves of Minnesota when he's up here that weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if he did commit.
Yes I do.Originally posted by Forever39:
Other than Charlie Rogers, do you think we will pick up any JUCOs?
I think Minnesota may be looking to add a JUCO on the OL to balance out some of the classes. I think Minnesota may also be in the market for another JUCO LB as well.
The guy you're referencing is Kjetil Cline and I think he's legit. He'll be at Minnesota' elite Junior camp in July and I'm eager to see him live. I think he definitely has a great shot as an offer guy.Originally posted by kekambas114:
Is it truly a trio now for the 2016 East Ridge kids, is the WR that good/will likely get an offer?
