Tells the team that last year, they were picked 13th in the Big Ten. This year, they’re picked higher but last year it showed that those rankings are irrelevant.

The team read “A Winner Within” by Pat Riley and learned about the disease of me. Pat Riley’s team came off no expectations to massive expectations and the disease of me creeped in.

Kept telling Isaiah Washington that he wasn’t playing hard enough. Today he came in with a big smile on his face and said he had a great talk with Nate Mason, and Nate talked to him about practicing hard. There’s something about leadership coming from peers.

Isaiah is very likable, fun loving, loves to be around. He hangs out with Nate a lot. It’s good to see Nate trying to teach him. Isaiah has a lot of talent but doesn’t really know what he’s doing right now, like most freshman. Kind of like Joey King and Jordan Murphy when Murphy was a freshman.

Pitino and Fleck are very good friends. Pitino just moved so he’s not as close living to him now. He really respects how absolutely committed Fleck is to his culture and way. To see that belief and confidence is inspiring. Fleck comes to a lot of the basketball practices. Pitino and his wife hang out with PJ and Heather a lot.

Murphy and Lynch played really well against Creighton, but in the scrimmage they weren’t caring about foul trouble. Both would have been in foul trouble had they cared about it. That’s even more important now that Eric Curry’s out.

The bulk of Reggie’s fouls aren’t on shot blocks. They’re when he’s getting tired and undisciplined.

Players often go into the season thinking about how they can improve their offensive game and scoring. That’s natural. Murphy’s started to understand that if he focused in rebounding, everything else will come to them. He got a lot of extra possessions and putbacks last year with his offensive rebounds. Big men are always told that if only they could shoot threes, they’ll have a chance to make the NBA. But sometimes if you’re really great at your strengths, you can play in the NBA too. Murphy has also developed his outside game.

Lynch’s rebounding has improved, his pick and roll defense has improved, and running the court has improved. If he can keep getting better at those three things, he could play in the NBA.

We have five starters who know how to play in Big Ten plays, which is why Washington won’t necessarily start right away.

Davonte Fitzgerald is quick to shoot. He looks good but he’s rusty. He’s fully healthy now.

Dupree, Reggie, and Davonte have all been cleared and are full go.

Coffey shot two shots in the first two minutes against Creighton and didn’t shoot again the rest of the game. Can’t have that. In practice, he’s shooting about 67% from the field. Part of that’s on Pitino to find him more shots, but part of that is on Amir to get those shots.

Been to Puerto Rico twice so he has fond memories of it. Very grateful that the NCAA is allowing charity games.

Loves the fact the exhibition game is in the Pav, a different environment. Should be a great environment for a great cause. The Pav should be packed.

Michael Hurt is a smart player and in great shape. He continues to work and lives in the gym.
