Through last Saturday's games, S&P+ has WI ranked as the nation's fourth best team. They have the 41st best offense (held down by their passing game) and the number one ranked defense. It is expected to be very windy again this Saturday which could mean another game that will look too much like the NW affair of last week.
The following are the rankings (national rank/offense rank/defense rank) for the remaining 13 conference teams:
OSU 1/4/12
PSU 5/14/14
MI 17/69/8
MSU 35/106/6
PUR 38/75/27
NW 49/82/30
IN 51/98/26
IA 62/113/21
MN 85/115/35
NE 96/70/102
RUT 107/123/50
MD 109/112/76
IL 118/122/84
Purdue is now ranked ahead of NW. Despite Brohm's reputation as an offensive coach, the Boilermakers are getting it done on defense. And they should, considering that five out of their front seven players are seniors with four more upperclassmen in the secondary. Sindelar, their RS SO QB who was a four star out of HS, is playing better and better. PUR will be tough next year.
The Brian Ferentz experiment as OC at IA is off to a less than stellar start. Jerry Kill is not exactly blowing the doors off with his offense at RUT, either.
