NEBRASKA BREAKDOWN, FARTHER DOWN THE THREAD......It will be kinda different for Senior Day at Williams Arena. Different in the sense that out of our 2 seniors, Akeem Springs has only been with the program this year though played a VERY SIGNIFICANT PART in this team's success this year.. The other, Darrin Haugh, has barely seen the floor in his Gopher career.
This is a GREAT TIME to honor the committment and improvement of the Gophers' team this year, from top to bottom. Richard Pitino has clearly gotten better as a coach and the team is playing as cohesive as I have seen in many many years. This team played with toughness after a miserable 2015-2016 campaign... They showed resolve as maybe one of the only teams to have this large of winning streak(7 games) after having such a long losing streak(5 games).. I dont think that is matched by any team in the nation in terms of swaying from one direction in wins to the other.. A credit to the toughness of the team... This is a WAY WAY DIFFERENT team than it was a month ago, both in mentality and confidence. They are TRULY playing as a team.
A great chance to get out and support our guys who are probably close to a lock for the NCAAs but have a lot to play for in these final 2 games.. I would expect the team to play with high intensity yet hopefully get some playing time for the players that are deep down the bench... Remember, those players that do not play much still have to be motivated to come to practice and give it their all.. Being ready on short notice, just in case, so they deserve our honor as well.
