PRECAUTION FOR SHENAULT, GREENE
Cornerback Antonio Shenault and offensive tackle Blaise Andries were kept out of some portion of Tuesday’s practice for precautionary reason, Fleck said. This is a nod to the importance both players hold in their otherwise thin position groups.

“If there something that’s going to risk something down the road — where maybe some years, you’re like ‘we’re gonna go, we’re just pushing through it,’ ” Fleck said. “We have to sacrifice that right now and give the proper time so it doesn’t become the issue.”

During the last 11-on-11 portion of practice, freshman Blaise Andries played at right tackle, with Vincent Calhoun at right guard, Jared Weyler at center, Conner Olson at left guard and Nick Connelly at left tackle.

Tackle Garrison Wright has also been sidelined during the Gophers’ open practices. Fleck previously deemed that reason as precautionary as well.

BRIEFLY
ESPN’s College GameDay filmed a portion of Tuesday’s practice as part of work on an upcoming feature story. It was the first time the popular Saturday morning pregame show has been in Dinkytown during training in at least six years. … The Big Ten Network will make its annual stop on campus on Thursday. … Antoine Winfield Jr. (left hamstring) wore pads Tuesday but did not participate in practice. Fleck said the focus will be having the starting safety ready for Buffalo.
