MARION - Burglary charges are pending against three University of Iowa wrestlers arrested on alcohol-related charges last week.

Those student-athletes have now been suspended indefinitely.

Marion Police Lt. Scott Elam said officers were called out to Hunters Ridge around 1 a.m. on March 18 for a theft-in-progress call. Officers were given the description of a suspect vehicle, which matched a vehicle seen in the area. The vehicle was driven by UI freshman Ross Lembeck, 19, of Lisbon. His passengers were 19-year-old freshman Seth Gross, of Apple Valley, Minn.; and 19-year-old freshman Logan Ryan, of Bettendorf.

All three grapplers were charged with possessing alcohol under the legal age. Lembeck was charged with drunken driving and Gross earned an additional charge of interference with official acts when he fought with officers.

Elam said the wrestlers were in possession of items believed to be taken from several burglaries in the area, including clothing items and a briefcase. He said the police department took seven burglary reports.

While exact charges haven't been determined yet, Elam said the three men are facing some combination of charges of second-degree burglary and burglary from a vehicle.

Second-degree burglary as a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

All three wrestlers were red-shirt competitors this season. Gross and Ryan each wrestled at 141 pounds and Lembeck wrestled at 157. Ryan saw the most success, going 22-6 with seven major decisions and two pins. Gross went 12-4 and Lembeck went 7-4 in his first year at Iowa.

Lembeck is a 2014 Linn-Mar graduate. In 2014, he went 19-1 at 152 pounds, placing third at the state tournament when he suffered his only loss. He holds the third-highest winning percentage in Linn-Mar history, according to his UI page.

In a prepared statement announcing their suspension, UI wrestling coach Tom Brands said he was still learning the facts of the arrests.

"I am extremely disappointed with the decision-making of these three young men," he said.
