Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck said earlier this week that many of his players would be taking the second flight ever today when the Gophers head to Maryland to open Big Ten play against the Terrapins on Saturday.
Minnesota will travel 1,107 miles this afternoon for tomorrow's game, and today's flight represents the longest of the season for the Gophers. Minnesota's next longest flight will be a 765-mile jaunt – or 341 miles less than today's journey – to Columbus, Ohio for a tilt at Ohio State in October.
Minnesota will also travel 512 miles to Illinois this season and 435 miles to Nebraska and 269 miles to Wisconsin. The Gophers will travel 6,176 miles round-trip this year as they play their five-game Big Ten road schedule.
