Antoine Winfield Jr. provides leadership in the secondary after missing eight games last year with an injury

Welcome back Winfield!
Those three words are sure to bring a smile to every member of the Gopher coaching staff, as Antoine Winfield Jr., is back in the Minnesota lineup after a nagging injury kept him sidelined last season.
Winfield burst onto the scene in 2016 and was named to a freshman All-American list after he made 52 tackles, broke up three passes, recovered one fumble and returned one interception 82 yards for a touchdown in 12 games.
The Academic All-Big Ten Winfield played in the first four games of the season last year and made 20 tackles before missing the final eight games with an injury. He was granted a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA and now has three years of eligibility remaining. A healthy Winfield can play numerous positions and provides Minnesota some versatility and coverage in a young secondary.
