P.J. Fleck's first team at WMU was 1-11 in 2013. WMU improved to 13-1 during his fourth season there.
Of equal impressiveness was the statistical improvements made. WMU went from scoring 17.2 points per game (11th in the MAC) to scoring 45.2 ppg (1st). Its defense went from giving up 35.4 ppg (11th) to allowing 18.4 ppg (2nd). Total offense improved from 327.2 ypg (11th) to 522.4 ypg (1st) with total defense improving from giving up 419.2 ypg (9th) to 377.4 ypg (4th). WMU went from 12th best in yards penalized to 3rd best and from 12th in net turnovers to 2nd best. In 2013 WMU was -8 in net turnovers but was +11 last year.
Hopefully, Fleck and his staff can make similar improvements over time at Minnesota--even with fans like Wren cheering against him.
